Hello District Council, We at Neighborhoods First! would like to talk to you about a "Stripe, Walk, Ride" plan to use Ayd Mill Road like the other streets in the city, which is to share the street with pedestrians and bicycles as well as cars. At this time St Paul has posted signs prohibiting pedestrian and bicycle traffic on Ayd Mill Road and has repeatedly proposed "freeway" plans over the years to connect Ayd Mill to 35E and 94. Neighborhoods then stop the freeway plans, over and over and over. When Ayd Mill looks like a little freeway, a freeway is psychologically and politically acceptable to those that do not live next to a freeway. To change this situation it is very important to use the Ayd Mill Corridor for more than just car traffic as soon as possible. The street will become a part of the neighborhoods and Ayd Mill freeway proposals will be difficult to "sell" to the public. The neighborhoods will also gain the use of 20+ acres of green space in an area of the city where there are only a few small parks. We have tried to fit the plan into the current set of solutions and uses decided by the city. We propose minimum costs to make the plan easy to accomplish in the current city budget. Our plan is attached. Thank you for your consideration.
