5/3/2000......

"I have indicated my support for not having a connection for Ayd Mill Road.  
Certainly, the presence of this road has created significant problems in the 
neighborhoods in this area, but I feel that building more roads within the 
city will have a detrimental effect on the quality of city life.  If there is 
something simple that can be done which would protect the integrity of our 
neighborhoods and still alleviate traffic I would support such efforts.  
However, we have to make sure that our priority is the maintenance of the 
quality of our city life and the maintenance of the urban lifestyle which 
will keep people within the city.  Anything else has to be secondary, and the 
city of St. Paul and the state of Minnesota should not be concerned nor feel 
that there is any responsibility for suburban residents who are looking for 
faster routes in and out of the city they do not live in."   (Dick Cohen)
