Here is President Holst's letter to the Concordia University community regarding the Kelly "experiment": MEMORANDUM To: Concordia Campus Community From: President Robert Holst Re: Ayd Mill Road/Increased Traffic on Hamline Avenue As you probably have seen in the media, the City of St. Paul will begin a year-long test of a new traffic flow pattern on Ayd Mill Road beginning June 15. The test will include the opening of the connection between Ayd Mill Road and I 35E and the closing of the Ayd Mill Road/Selby Ave. exit with traffic to be redirected to the Hamline Avenue exit. The city expects the traffic on Hamline Avenue to increase by about 7,000-9,000 cars per day. Campus leaders, of course, are concerned about the increased traffic through our campus and the potential impact on pedestrian safety. We have strongly expressed our concerns to the city and the city has assured us that they are seriously considering our concerns and will respond within a week. We will keep you up-to-date on the status of the Ayd Mill Road project. Know that we remain committed to monitoring the project and its potential impact on our campus community.
